Configuring Dial Up Networking For Windows 95/98

First step is to make sure you have Dial Up Networking (DUN) installed. Double click on My Computer on your desktop and check to see if you have the Dial-up Networking Folder. If you don't have it installed, click here for instructions on how to install Dial Up Networking.

Here we will install the Simply Internet DUN connection.
First, go to My Computer - Dial up Networking - Double click on Make New Connection icon.

In the Type a name for the computer you are dialing in: field, type in "Simply Internet" Under Select a modem:, select your installed modem. Click Next

Next, fill in your area code in the Area Code: field. Under Telephone number: , enter the local access number you are dialing in. You can find a local access number on our local access number page.
Click Next

Click  Finish

You will be brought back to the Dial-up Networking folder. You will find an Simply Internet icon in your Dial-up Networking folder. Right click on the icon and Left click on "Properties". They will be brought to the following window.

If the number you are dialing is in your own area code, be sure to uncheck "Use country code and area code".

Next, click on "Server Type". Note: If you're running Windows 95 OSR1, the "Server Type" button will be on the bottom. If you're running Windows 95 OSR2, the "Server Type" button will be at the top as a tab.

Uncheck Log onto Network Also, uncheck NetBEUI and IPX/SPX Compatible Generally, the default output of TCP/IP Settings is correct. However, its always good to check over it. To do this, click TCP/IP settings Click OK twice. You will now be at the DUN folder.

Right Click on the Simply Internet Icon. Left Click on Create Shortcut. Windows will ask you if you want to create the shortcut on your desktop. Go to your desktop, double click on the shortcut and click on Connect.

You will see the following:

 

Here, enter your username and password. Make sure that both
are in lower case! If you would like to disable call waiting (optional), click
on "Dial Properties..."

Here, you will see:(note, this may look a little different in Windows95)

 

Here, click on "To disable call waiting, dial" and then click on the down
arrow. Chose *70. Click OK.

You have successfully configured DUN for Simply Internet.
